Art Therapy

“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way—things I had no words for.”

Georgia O’Keeffe — Artist

What is art therapy?

Art therapy is an established profession and form of psychotherapy practised internationally and delivered by trained art therapists.

How can it help?

Art therapy offers a supportive space to explore and express experiences through art-making and the creative process, as well as an opportunity to reflect on emotional responses, ways of relating, and coping with difficult moments.

Who is it suitable for?

Art therapy is suitable for people of all ages, backgrounds and artistic abilities.

It can be particularly helpful for those who communicate non-verbally, as well as anyone who finds it difficult to put their experiences into words.

I am a trained art therapist and associate member of BAAT: British Association of Art Therapists.

My identity as an art therapist is shaped by a background in art and design, and rooted in a spirit of curiosity and exploration. I have a particular interest in materiality — how the qualities of different materials, and the ways we interact with them, can provide a language for communication.

I have professional experience across the creative, educational and charitable sectors, and have worked with people of different ages, backgrounds and cultures.

My practice is grounded in a humanistic ethos, focusing on individual experience, personal meaning, agency and the capacity for growth. I consider confidentiality fundamental to building a trusting therapeutic relationship.
